We purchased Laddie from a dealer in east Scotland. We found out later that this was a very unscrupulous character. At the time we believed we were buying a long haired black German Shepherd pup with kennel club papers and a sound pedigree. However, it turned out that Laddie’s bloodline was not as healthy as we were led to believe. After many months of chasing we received a forged pedigree. Shortly thereafter the “so called” breeder disappeared off the face of the earth after setting fire to his own home. So there was no recourse.
All of this is by the by because from the first moment we set eyes on Laddie we loved him. I remember the moment when I picked him up for the first time and held him in front of my face. The whole world seemed to stand still and Laddie went from being a squirming, yapping pup amongst pups to being my little son. My mother and my fiance were there with me, both of them trying to convince me that I should wait and think things over. But I had always been impulsive and my mind was made as soon as I saw Laddie.
