Paul Gray and the Great Wall of China - The Story So Far

16th May 2006:
Paul landed in Beijing on Sunday afternoon, checked in to the hotel, had a quick whizz around the capital, and then did what Paul loves best, sampled the local cuisine. The group tucked into a Chinese feast, but the Crispy duck was extra. On Pauls' table they ordered 2 ducks, and they each had to pay a pound!!!!
Got a call from Paul at 3pm on Sunday our time (10pm Beijing time), he was in a garden over looking tiananmen square enjoying a huge glass of beer (635ml) that cost him the princely sum of 25p . If it hadn't been for the start of the trek the next morning he would have pushed the boat out and had another. Suddenly have a vision of Lisa booking her flight to Beijing now.............

Paul was up at 5 am on the Monday setting his camera to film a time elapse view from his bedroom window.  He hopes it works, he is trying to film 2 hours of the traffic mayhem in Beijing to play in 2 minutes, I am sure he will play it to you when he gets back.

Only one of the group got scammed, the youngest member Barnaby (Pauls room mate) got caught by the hawkers and now has 2 gift souvenirs to give to friends when he returns.

First day of the trek went well, though a few of the group found it tough going. Paul says day 2 was really hard, 3 people had to turn back as they couldn't make it.  The gradient was like going up the hill at Lincoln but for 3 hours on loose rocks.

“This week we are off!!! After nearly a year of fundraising and planning, I fly out to Beijing this weekend to start my Trek with over 30 other people all raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
