Updated 13th March 2008:We’ve all just returned from a short break in Inverness. I’d planned this months ago and two weeks in the middle of nowhere usually does me the world of good. We were sure to cancel until our son developed Chicken Pox. I discussed this with the staff at dad’s ward and they advised us all that we should stay away. Chicken Pox, it seems, can have serious effects on adults with compromised immune systems*. Inverness was very cold. We were used to it that way, but this year it really seemed especially cold. But it was great to get away from the technology that seems to dominate our lives. Computers, laptops, Playstation games and our television all have way to much significance in our day to day activities. The log cabin we rent has almost non existent mobile phone signal, non existent wifi internet access and a small screen television that we did not switch on even once. It was an absolute joy for me to enjoy the baser aspects of life. It was great just to be alone with my wife and son. Of course, as a small businessman I have obligations that go beyond holidays, illness and other events. So every day my son and I drove out to Inverness Airport to log into a BT Openzone wifi access point. * My father has end stage renal failure and has just started dialysis. He has had a small heart attack and is in intensive care at Edinburgh’s New Royal Infirmary. Here are some more links about this story: 26th February 20th February Help Us Help You...
